With Oswin Appollis having netted on his official debut for Orlando Pirates this past weekend, here's a look at a handful of stars who also scored in their first match for the Bucs across various competitions.
The Story
It took Appollis just 13 minutes into his Pirates career to score his first official goal for the club.
The Bafana Bafana star was among several high-profile signings made by the Buccaneers in the recent transfer window, and his time at the club couldn’t have gotten off to a better start—his goal came against Polokwane City, the very club he was signed from.

Nevertheless, Appollis’ impressive debut is not an isolated case. There have been several other Pirates players who scored in their first official game for the club.
One of them was none other than Benni McCarthy, who scored against Black Leopards after coming on as a substitute in his first match for the Bucs in August 2011.
Malawi international Gabadinho Mhango also replicated this feat, scoring on debut as a substitute against Bloemfontein Celtic in August 2019.
Although some players didn’t score in their very first official appearance for the club, others found the net on their debut in specific competitions for Pirates.
Patrick Maswanganyi scored on his CAF Champions League debut for Pirates against Djabal Iconi in August 2023.
Meanwhile, Relebohile Mofokeng scored in his first Nedbank Cup appearance for Pirates during a 6–0 win over Crystal Lake FC in February 2024.
