'The PSL is better run than SAFA'

In this edition of In The Spotlight, former Vaal Professionals and Bush Bucks player Rabie Nkoane shares his insights with KickOff.

Who is the best footballer South Africa has ever had?

"Lucas Radebe. Very few players in our country started their football careers as goalkeepers, then became strikers, and midfielders before being converted into defenders. His leadership skills are outstanding."

Was he your role model?

"I can definitely say so, yes. His leadership skills were unmatched, especially in South Africa. It's rare to find someone who can effectively handle a leadership role in big teams like Kaizer Chiefs and the national team, Bafana Bafana so well."

Orlando Pirates or Mamelodi Sundowns?

"Bhakabhaka. They are performing exceptionally well at the moment. This is going to be a great season for them."

ANC or EFF?

"I'm sticking with the ANC [laughs]."

SAFA or PSL?

"The PSL is better run than SAFA. In the PSL, they always try to employ former players at clubs, whereas at SAFA, they rarely consider former Bafana Bafana players."

Dr. Kaizer Motaung or Dr. Irvin Khoza?

"Based on their qualities, I would choose Kaizer. He is good, but unfortunately, his family is letting him down now."

Doctor Khumalo or Tebogo Moloi?

"I choose Mdokis; he was a superstar. The skill that Doctor had was out of this world. He was truly exceptional."

Which player used to give you sleepless nights?

"King Charles Motlohi. I always felt his presence on the pitch. I cannot forget about Jabu Mahlangu and Alex Bapela either."

At which of your former clubs did you enjoy playing the most?

"Vaal Professional. That's where it all began for me as a youngster."

Which player was the easiest to play against?

"David Solopi. I enjoyed playing against him because his tackles weren't very strong. He lost concentration easily. If you started a small chat with him, he would lose focus on the game and concentrate on what you were saying instead."

Is there anything you dislike about football?

"Just like back in our days, players today are still complaining about salaries. You sign a five-year contract, become a hot property, but they will never give you an improved contract."
