Important detail change for Stellies v Chiefs

The PSL has announced a new key development concerning the highly anticipated clash between Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.

Chiefs open their season against Stellies, a side they got the better of twice in the league last term – 2-1 at FNB Stadium via a Wandile Duba brace in January, before a 1-0 victory in a sold-out encounter through an early Glody Lilepo strike a month later.

As if that was not enough, Nasreddine Nabi’s men recorded a 3-1 success against the Winelands outfit in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup en route to winning the tournament to end a 10-year silverware drought.

With the Soweto giants yet to be in competitive action after finishing outside the Top Eight bracket in 2024/25, thus missing out on the ongoing MTN8, there is heightened fever and anticipation for their clash this weekend.

Initially scheduled for DHL Cape Town Stadium on Sunday at 17:30, the game will now be taking place at Athlone Stadium, as per the communication by the PSL on Wednesday morning.

It has not yet been established what led to the venue change, though there is a big rugby fixture on the horizon, the Castle Lager Rugby Championship match between the Springboks and Australia taking place on August 23.

The odds of another sold-out affair are high considering the side is to parade some of their new signings, who include the likes of Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, and Flavio Silva.
