Willem Jackson not giving up on Platinum Star's CAF Confederation Cup dream

Jackson was on the bench as Dikwena drew their midweek continental clash against CS Sfaxien 1-1, a result which leaves Stars bottom of the group on two points, and eight behind the Tunisian group leaders with just two matches remaining.

And with his side still mathematically in with a chance, Jackson has refused to give up hope.

“There’s still six points to play for,” he told his club’s website. “Hopefully we can get all six. Hopefully Sfaxien will lose their two games. If they lose two games and we get six points then we go up.

“We are still under pressure. We will be looking to see the results between Mbabane Swallows and Sfaxien. If Swallows can beat Sfaxien and we beat MC Alger and Sfaxien must lose two games and we get the six points, then we stand a chance.”

The caretaker coach was able to extract positives from his side’s midweek draw, with Stars the only South African club to have scored on the continent this week.

“We scored a goal,” he said. “It was good for us. You could see that we can attack. We just had slight problem in defence. We lost a little bit of concentration and that’s why we conceded that goal.

“Overall the guys played well. They attacked a lot. You could see that they were more positive going forward. We really hoped that we could get all the three points but we had to be satisfied with a point.”

Dikwena face Algerian rivals MC Alger in their next clash at the end of the month, which the side know they have to win.

“We need three points,” Jackson said. “We will push to get the three points. It’s going to be tough. The youngsters are geared up for this and hopefully everything will come right for us on the day.”
