Matsatsantsa will visit Mazembe in the first leg in Lubumbashi on Sunday (14h30 SA time).
Matthews is mindful the officiating was poor when the late Meyiwa had to save two penalties for Bucs in a 1-0 defeat of the Congolese giants in the CAF Champions League in May 2013.
Seychelles referee Bernard Camille handled that match and was also in charge when SuperSport drew 1-1 with Club Africain in the opening duel of their semi-final at Lucas Moripe Stadium on October 1.
"To have had luck along the way and the character of the boys that they showed to overcome what we feel was not the best officiating over the two legs against Club Africain, I think it was fantastic,” says Matthews.
"Hopefully, we will get a reasonable official. My mind goes back to Orlando Pirates playing against TP Mazembe and the late Senzo pulling off multiple penalty saves.
"One just needs to see the final is officiated in a fair and proper way. Strong officiating is good, fair officiating is better and that's what we want, then I think we can trade blows with Mazembe."
Matthews continues: "We did it home and away in the group stages. We came from a 2-0 down against them there and we showed good character so this team has a lot of self belief at the moment.
"And you have to ride those waves while they come. Hopefully we can keep that momentum going it has been a long story for us.
"We've been trying to keep momentum since April. One more push to try and keep the momentum within the team and the fluidity that the boys have in them within the playing style and within their heart."
