SuperSport United defender Tefu Mashamaite unconcerned about TP Mazembe's rich history

Mazembe, who are the defending champions, have won five Champions League titles, the Super Cup three times and the Confederation Cup once. They are one of Africa’s most successful and richest clubs, while SuperSport are heading into only their first continental final.

Mashamaite, however, is not too concerned about what Mazembe has achieved.

“It’s exciting, but if we are going to focus too much on what Mazembe has done, then it’s just going to be dangerous for us.

"I think we deserve to be where we are now. We have worked hard throughout the year to reach this stage and at the end of the day it’s going to be 11 against 11. History is not going to matter on the day. It’s just about how we approach the game and about how confident we are. We are looking forward to it. We just have to be positive, that’s all.

"We've played teams that were considered more experienced than us, but on the day everything happened for us because we believed in the squad we have."

SuperSport's journey to Lubumbashi did not start too well. Upon arriving at the airport on Friday morning, they were told that their flight had been delayed by six hours.

This makes life a little more difficult for Matsatsantsa, but this is unlikely to deter them. They are not new to these types of experiences.

"We went to Sudan and we had to travel three hours from the hotel to the game, with heavily armed personnel just protecting us. When we get to the stadium, we have 15 minutes to prepare. Then afterwards it's 15 minutes to get done and then three hours to the airport.

"We went to Liberia and we had to connect via Nigeria. We get to Nigeria, had to wait like two hours at the airport. Eventually we got on the plane and as we are about to land in Liberia, we get told that the airport is closed. We were airborne for an extra two hours. People just started panicking and we were just flying all over West Africa, waiting for the airport to be opened. It's such things that motivate you."
