Siyanda Zwane re-iterates Mamelodi Sundowns' CAF Champions League ambition

Pitso Mosimane’s side visit Ghanaian side Medeama FC in their second leg CAF Confederation Cup clash, taking a healthy 3-1 lead following their first leg victory at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Should they progress in the tie, Downs will enter the group stages of the competition, where the top two of four teams in each group qualify for the semi-finals of Africa’s second-tier club competition.

Yet after already securing this season’s League title, Zwane says the CAF Champions League still remains a priority and believes his side will use this year’s Confederation Cup journey as experience for the future.

"We work hard as a team and the technical team also work hard,” he tells snl24.com/kickoff. “The coach doesn’t work on the ‘now process’ … he works on what can happen in the future.

"So as team we are not looking for short-term goal, like we want to win the League now ...

"Although we are now in the Confederation Cup, we still want to conquer Africa which we believe is one thing that is missing from us as a team.

“From then on we can say ‘we made it’ because we want to play at the Fifa Club World Cup, where the teams that won their specific Champions Leagues get the chance to play with the likes of Barcelona and others.

“And that is the long-term goal - this is where we want to go as a team.’’

Pitso Mosimane’s side will turn their attention back to Absa Premiership duties following their midweek CAF exploits as they host Platinum Stars in their last game of the season on Saturday.
