Platinum Stars still harbour ambitions of advancing to CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals

Stars will need a miracle if they to advance to the next round as they currently have just two points from four games. MC Alger are leading the group with eight points, followed by CS Sfaxien with seven points and Mbabane Swallows with four.

“I know we haven’t won a match [in the CAF Confederation Cup], but we have not yet lost at home. We played two draws and lost two games away,” Communications Manager Tebogo Mochadibane says.

“Look, mathematically, like we normally do in the country, when you have your calculator there’s still a big chance that if we collect the remaining six points and one of the two teams at the top lose their games we are in with a fair chance.

“But I think as Platinum Stars we’ve made our point… whether we get eliminated now or we proceed and get eliminated later… we’ve proof that we are not pushovers. We can compete at that level.”

Stars started the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Algeria’s MC Alger at home before losing 4-2 to Mbabane Swallows in Swaziland.

It didn’t get better for Stars as in their third game in Tunisia they got whipped 3-0 by CS Sfaxien whilst last week Wednesday Stars hosted CS Sfaxien in a game that ended 1-1.

Dikwena will face MC Alger from Algeria tonight at Stade du 5 Juillet, Algiers, with kick off set for 22h00.
