Dikwena secured their ticket to the second-tier event by finishing third in the Absa Premiership.
Champions Mamelodi Sundowns and runners-up Bidvest Wits qualified for the CAF Champions League.
"We are happy for the fact that we will able to go to Africa to showcase our skill and feel how is going to be like playing in Africa," says Johnson.
"I think it's a different mentality and a different group of players need to be there. We hope by going there we will add to our philosophy and the way we would like to play going forward."
Johnson, a former Sundowns assistant coach, says he will draw on past experiences of continental competition.
"I am very excited. It's always been good for me. When I was at Sundowns we went to Africa and almost got to the final stages but lost to Sfaxien I think.
"When with Platinum Stars, we were the first team to beat Al-Ahly when they still had great players like Aboutrika. They were a good team and I think in many years we were the first team to beat them on South African soil and that gives a lot of experience. We want to bring that experience back to Platinum Stars."
