Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson confident of strong run in 2017, focus on PSL and CAF

Dikwena currently find themselves at the wrong end of the Premiership standings, sitting just one point clear of the relegation zone after winning only three of their opening 14 league matches.

However, the Rustenburg outfit have the added confidence boost of being in CAF competition in 2017, where they face Mozambique side Uniao Do Songo just three days after resuming domestic duties against Orlando Pirates on February 8.

And Johnson feels their rigorous mid-season training regime will have the team firing on all cylinders.

Speaking to Platinum Stars’ official website from their training camp in Nelspruit, the coach said: “We have got a good sense of our readiness. We are playing many games to get an indication of where we are.

“It’s good because once the PSL starts we play every third day. We are in the league and the CAF. We are happy that players are going through that. We have been doing some team building exercises. We are working on stuff. We do our set pieces and dead ball situations exercises.

“We also have friendlies lined up in the Nelspruit area before returning to Rustenburg.”

Focusing on their upcoming CAF assignment, Johnson feels their recent friendly match against Mozambican side Costa Do Sol was perfect preparation, saying: “Against Costa we got an idea of what we are going to be up against in CAF.

"It wasn’t a bad team. They play defensive but we managed to do what we wanted to get out of the camp. Against Mbombela, it was good because we played all the players. We tried different positions and combinations."
