Nxesi believes SuperSport gave a good account of themselves, but said football is about putting the ball in the back of the net.
"So at the end of the day it’s not about how much you display but it’s about the goals. They could not make it, that's it. But let’s congratulate TP Mazembe,” he added.
SuperSport and Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns were the only PSL teams that managed to go beyond the group stages of their respective continental club competitions this year and Nxesi has urged South African clubs to continue taking the tournaments seriously.
"Certainly they must [continue participating]. If we want to be part of the world we must go through the continent,” he added.
SuperSport will quickly have to put the disappointment of missing out on lifting the Confederation Cup when they take on Ajax Cape Town in the Absa Premiership at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday (19h30).
