Micho Sredojevic gives handy advise to Bidvest Wits, SuperSport United for CAF Confederation Cup fixtures

Wits and SuperSport take on Nigeria’s Enyimba and Kenya’s Gor Mahia over two legs for a place in the continental cup’s group stages over the next week.

With over 16 years’ experience in Africa, Sredojevic has shared some advice with the Clever Boys, who will play Enyimba at home before visiting Aba for the return leg in 10 days’ time, and is confident Gavin Hunt’s side can overcome The Aba Warriors.

“Bidvest Wits playing Enyimba, going to Aba is an absolute nightmare I tell you. I’ve been and I’m proudly one of the rare coaches on the continent never to have lost in Nigeria.

“I have never lost a match in Nigeria – with Pirates against Enyimba [drew 1-1 in 2006], with Al Hilal against Enyimba [drew 2-2 in 2011] and, in Vincent Enyeama’s 100th match, we beat Nigeria with Uganda, and many other matches that I’ve gone there,” Sredojevic gloated, before warning of the hostile conditions Wits will be faced with in their away-leg.

“I can tell you Aba is a special place, from a point of humility and logistics, because you need to go to Port Harcourt and then [to drive] 1 hour-50 minutes to that place is very hard.

“I wish them all the best, and I believe that with the quality Wits has, they will represent our football in the best possible way.”

Meanwhile, with Matsatsantsa set for a first-leg trip to Nairobi, the Serbian tactician believes their CAF experience from last year should be enough to see them passed the House of Ogalo.

“Going to Kenya, Gor Mahia is a team that is coached by an English coach and it’s not easy going there, even Esperance went and were luck to survive recently,” added Sredojevic.

“One goal in Tunis decided Esperance will go to the Champions League and Gor Mahia dropped to the Confederation Cup, so SuperSport will have very serious business.

“This is the most supported – I would say a tribal and most popular – team in Kenya, and in 1987 they won the CAF Cup Winners’ Cup, so it will be very hard for them.

“But with SuperSport’s experience, I have confidence that they will represent our football in the best possible way, get a good result and pass through.”
