Stars took the lead in the second half through Bongi Ntuli, but their leaky defence could not hold onto the lead and Maher Hannachi equalised fort he visitors.
Algerian side MC Alger lead the pool with eight points, followed by Sfaxien (seven), Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland (four) and Stars (two).
There was little action in the first half, but Stars took the lead on 58 minutes when Ntuli turned home Sphiwe Mnguni’s right-wing cross.
Ntuli might have made it 2-0 shortly afterwards, but could not find a finish after storming into the box.
The visitors kept plugging away and they found an equaliser when Hannachi almost passed the ball into the net as it came to him at pace in the box.
Mbongeni Mzimela was the busier of the two keepers after that, but in the end the teams settled for a point that is much more useful for Sfaxien.
