Pirates will host Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel in the first leg of the Final of the competition at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
Barker famously guided Bafana Bafana to Africa Cup of Nations honours on home soil in 1996, a year after Bucs won the CAF Champions League.
Barker feels South Africa's success 19 years ago went hand in hand with the Buccaneers' continental triumph. And the Maritzburg United tactician has faith Pirates coach Eric Tinkler, who played under him for Bafana, can steer the club to glory.
"Good luck Tinkler, we are right behind you. Bring that trophy back like Pirates did in 1995," said the ever-smiling Barker while placing his right hand on his heart.
"When I was there [as Bafana coach] they [Pirates] were the reason why we were able to win the African Cup of Nations a year later because they set the standards and set it to me."
Barker has fond memories of Jerry Sikhosana scoring the winner for Pirates in a 3-2 aggregate victory against Asec Mimosa in the Champions League Final.
"I saw Jerry Sikhosana score on a run inside, outside and when it was the time to hit it, he hit it at the right time into the side of the net and of course we were champions.
"We are right behind them, so I'm Buccaneer supporter," added Barker.
