The Citizens qualified for the competition by finishing third in their first year of existence in the Absa Premiership last term after John Comitis bought the topflight status of Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Benni McCarthy's side on Wednesday were drawn to face Buffaloes, who earned their ticket to the CAF event by reaching the Swazi Bank Cup final where they lost to Mbabane Swallows.
While many teams in Swaziland are semi-professional, Buffaloes enjoy government support and train twice a day at an army base in Matsapha.
Club coach Dominic Kunene has little complaint with being pitted against City and knows what to expect given the extensive TV coverage of the Absa Premiership.
“All I can say is it’s a fair draw. It's an interesting draw,” Kunene tells snl24.com/kickoff from Mbabane.
“Our advantage is we are watching most of the PSL games on TV. This will give us an idea of what to expect from City. We have hard work to do but I believe with hard work we can do well against them.”
Amathole EziNyathi were trailing Swazi Premier League leaders Mbabane Swallows on goal difference heading into the weekend with 38 points from 16 games.
