Bradley Grobler fully focused on CAF Confederation Cup final despite Bafana Bafana disappointment

Matsatsantsa jetted off to Lubumbashi on Friday afternoon ahead of arguably the biggest fixture of their history, as they take on TP Mazembe in the CAF Confederation Cup final first leg.

Given the return from Dakar of the Bafana Bafana players on Thursday evening, it is suspected SuperSport's contingent may have added difficulty in trying to settle back into their club regime ahead of the mammoth clash.

However, Grobler says the long hours in transit cannot be used as an excuse as it is part and parcel of the job.

"It's been a long 10 days to be honest, but we're all professional so travelling is part of what we do. We've done it pretty much our whole lives, so it's not going to affect us too much," defended Grobler.

"At least we're going up [to Lubumbashi] two days early so we can train for two days before the match, which will probably help us [Bafana players]."

While Ronwen Williams, Clayton Daniels, Morgan Gould and Dean Furman likewise missed out while the rest of their teammates prepared to take on the defending champions, Grobler argued that they already know what's expected of them.

"I don't think it's going to affect the team too much. I think we pretty much know what we're doing, we've started building something good with the team now and it's just about keeping that going," he added.

"Obviously it's not ideal to be away for so long before a big game like this but, like I said, everyone's professional and knows their job. I think we're struggling with a few injuries, which is not going to help us but, yeah, we're ready for it."

Aside from physical readiness, the mental state of the Bafana players could also be questioned following their failure to beat Senegal and qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The 29-year-old frontman believes they are all experienced enough to move on quickly and shift focus to the important task at hand, which is to come home with a favourable result before the second leg next weekend.

"It [the Bafana disappointment] really does get you down a bit but, at the same time, I think after the last Cape Verde game we were not in a great space either but we managed to come back and beat Club Africain.

"We are professionals, we need to forget about things as quickly as we can and, luckily for us, we've got a big game now to try and fix ourselves up, which is nice.

"If you don't have a game where you can try get back on a good streak then it's even more difficult. At least we have a chance to get back on a good run," he concluded.
