So when Matsatsantsa take on TP Mazembe in the CAF Confederation Cup final first leg in Lubumbashi on Sunday, you can bet the Liberian international will be rooting for his former club to win the game and follow in the footsteps of Sundowns who won a continental title last year – the Champions League.
Morgan Gould, who is suspended for the clash, is a good friend of Laffor. They played together at Jomo Cosmos and later won the league at SuperSport.
“I am very happy for SuperSport. I have friends in the team. I spoke to Stan [Matthews, SuperSport CEO] the other day and from our conversation we had you can tell that he is happy. They deserve to be in the final,” Laffor tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“I keep in touch with them. I talk to guys like Morgan Gould and Clayton Daniels. We are not playing for the same team but we are friends and I wish them well.”
Laffor knows the feeling of lifting a continental trophy. It’s not something that comes often, so SuperSport need to make the most of the opportunity they have right now.
The advantage SuperSport have is that the second leg will be played at home, so they need to get an away goal on Sunday to give themselves a strong shot of wrapping it up on home soil in the return encounter.
“They have to keep feet on the ground and make South Africa proud,” Laffor says.
“It’s not going to be easy, but SuperSport have proven to be a good team.
“The good thing is that everything is going to be on TV, so there will be no cheating. SuperSport need to bring their A-game. It won’t be the first time playing against Mazembe because they played in the group stages, so they know who they are coming up against.”
