Wydad go 10 games unbeaten

Wydad won 1-0 away at relegation threatened Youssoufia Berrechid last night with Ayoub El Kaabi on target.

El Kaabi also scored in the 4-0 demolition of Chiefs during the group stages back in February.

Last night's result against Berrechid pushed Wydad to 41 points and within a point of leaders Raja Casablanca with a game in hand.

Since their last defeat in April, Wydad have now gone on to win six and draw four in all competitions and have another two games to play in their domestic league against Difaa El Jadidi and Hassania Agadir before they square off against Chiefs.

Wydad have their interests in wrestling the domestic title away from Raja after losing out in painful circumstances last season and in between that they will tilt their focus towards the continent's premier club competition.

The two-legged affair between Wydad and Chiefs which decides who meets either Al Ahly or Esperance in the final will be played on June 18 in Casablanca with the return leg a week later in Johannesburg.

This year's once off final takes place at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca – which is also Wydad's home ground.

In contrast, while Wydad have been dealing with matters at the top of the standings with two thirds of their campaign played, Chiefs are scrambling to finish in position in the PSL eight a week after sacking Gavin Hunt.

Chiefs need nothing other than victory against TS Galaxy to squeeze their way into position eight, which carries the prize of playing in the MTN8 next season.

Prior to the midweek victory over Golden Arrows, Chiefs had won just twice in their last dozen matches.
