Wydad sunk Difaa El Jadidi 4-2 to stretch their unbeaten run to 11 games as their meeting with Chiefs edges ever so near.
The man that Amakhosi will have to make sure is given special attention is Ayoub El Kaabi, who struck a hat-trick on Wednesday evening after Tanzanian forward Simon Msuva had opened the scoring early on.
El Kaabi has now scored 18 goals in all competitions this season, while that result saw Wydad climb above Raja Casablanca on to 44 points – two above their rivals with two thirds of the league campaign played.
Wydad will still play Hassania Agadir this evening before they square off with the South African outfit in Casablanca next week Saturday, in the first of a two-legged tie that will decide who proceeds to the final against either Al Ahly or Esperance.
With the domestic season over in the PSL, and Chiefs without any games to play in the two weeks between their last game and their next, Wydad will have played two games in that period.
They could meet the Soweto giants having gone a dozen games without tasting defeat.
After the first leg in Casablanca next week Saturday, the return leg will be played at FNB Stadium a week later, with the final of this year's competition to be played as a once-off affair at Wydad's home ground – the Stade Mohammed V.
Chiefs have already played Wydad twice in the group stage this season, losing 4-0 away in Ougadougou before winning 1-0 at home in a game in which the Moroccans sent a weakened team after already qualifying as group winners.
The Glamour Boys have never reached this stage of the competition before, while Wydad have come this far six times and went on to be champions twice.
