Wydad Atheltic Club dangermen to watch for Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs' CAF Champions League semi-final first leg meeting away at Wydad Casablanca on Saturday will put them against the attacking prowess of Ayoub El Kaabi yet again.

El Kaab has led the Wydad frontline with aplomb this season with 19 goals in 33 appearances after returning from Chinese club Hebei FC.

The 27-year-old went out to Hebei on a big money transfer from RS Berkane after top scoring with nine goals at the 2018 CHAN tournament held in Morocco.

He only managed to play 15 games in the Chinese Super League scoring four goals before moving to Wydad on loan in July 2019 until the end of that year after which he went back to China.

With the corona virus taking its toll last year he was then able to return to Wydad on a free and has been their go to man for goals for the past eight months.

El Kaabi is said to be the highest earner in Botola on a package of just under R10 million per annum and Chiefs already had a feel of his qualities when he scored in the 4-0 group stages win back in February.

"He is good, sometimes unlucky but he scores and that is what matters. He never tried in Europe. After scoring nine goals in the 2018 CHAN, Chinese club Hebei FC bought him for US$6 million. However, with the corona virus he was free to go and so came back," says Nassim El Kerf, a Moroccan journalist based in Casablanca.

Wydad will also have the dangerous Muaid Ellafi doing damage on the wings.

The Libyan has scored nine and created 10 so far this season.

He was amongst those that provided assists in the 4-0 win and will need to be monitored from close by Chiefs defenders as he is arguably the most talented player in the Wydad squad.

The Moroccan giants also have Walid El Karti, who plays anywhere in central midfield.

El Karti has scored six and assisted in five and was also amongst those that aided in the making of one of the goals the last time Chiefs travelled to play Wydad.

The 26-year-old enjoys the Champions League stage having won this trophy four years ago.

However, the backbone of this Wydad team is their holding midfielder Yahya Jabrane.

He steadies the ship so much that just about every move for Wydad is made via him using his experience and influence.

Tanzanian forward Simon Msuva is also a handful down the flanks as proven by the nine goals that he has scored in all competitions since joining in November last year.
