Mbatha holds vast experience in African football having overseen a treble with Orlando Pirates, leading the now-defunct Platinum Stars between 2013 and 2017 before his solitary season with the Tanzanian giants.
After steady progress in which they won the Community Shield, Vodacom Premier League and Tanzania league cup in the 2019/20 season he announced his shock resignation on Sunday morning.
"A special thank you message to Simba SC leadership for providing me the opportunity to lead this great club," Mbatha wrote on Twitter.
"I regrettably have tendered my resignation from the club with immediate effect. Within a short space of time, a lot has been achieved. Asanteni Sana wana Simba."
This website understands Mbatha has now signed from Dar es Salaam rivals Yanga just hours after he confirmed the news after reportedly becoming disillusioned by the administrative interference at the league champions.
Just a day after announcing marquee signing Bernard Morrison on a free transfer from Yanga - who claims he still holds one more year on his contract - Mbatha has now moved in the opposite direction.
It's been suggested the transfer of the controversial Ghanian, whom he denied knowledge of signing, was one of the key issues behind his sudden exit.

The club has also stated in an official statement that they are waiting to receive Mbatha's official resignation and that an interim CEO will be announced in due course.
