Pitso Mosimane: Egypt legends claim criticism against Al Ahly coach is racist attacks

Mosimane led the Red Devils to their second consecutive CAF Champions League final after winning the title last season, added to the Egypt Cup, CAF Super Cup, and third-place at the FIFA Club World Cup.

While they are third in the league table and 20 points behind league leaders Zamalek, Ahly are still in contention for the title as their grueling schedule this season has seen rack up eight games in hand.

And The Pharaoh's most-capped player in their illustrious history who won four Africa Cup of Nations titles told OnTime Sport that any criticism directed at Mosimane is completely unwarranted.

"Mosimane deserved the praise from the beginning. He's a distinguished coach and a tactician at the highest level, and his problem is that he is African," he said.

"The public and the media are used to foreigners. He achieved everything that was asked of him and the decision of him coaching Al Ahly was the correct one."

These sentiments were echoed by former Zamalek striker Mido on his show 'The Changing Room': "The attack on Mosimane is racist. If he was a European, he would not have been subjected to this criticism.

"He knows how to deal well outside the field and uses all weapons, including the media, which he used in the best way to direct pressure towards Esperance before the return leg."

Mosimane will lead the Club of the Century in four league games against Pyramids, Smouha, Al Mokawloon and Misr El Makkasa before the final against Kaizer Chiefs on 17 July.
