Mamelodi Sundowns reveal details of CAF Champions League trip to Botswana

Sundowns are expected to travel to Botswana less than 24 hours before their opening Champions League match against Jwaneng Galaxy scheduled to take place in Lobatse on Tuesday.

The Brazilians are set to travel to Durban on Saturday for a DStv Premiership encounter against Golden Arrows, before returning to Johannesburg to prepare for their trip to neighbouring Botswana on Monday.

The first-round first leg fixture between the Tshwane giants and Galaxy is set to kick off at 15h30 at Lobatse Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has confirmed that his charges will jet out on Monday after their domestic commitments this weekend.

"We've decided to go to Botswana [late] because of circumstances and the Covid-19 protocols – there's a 48-hour test [window] and all those things, so that also puts a spanner in the works," said Mngqithi.

"The team is used to these challenges and we fully understand our space. We are optimistic that we will come out strong through all these challenges."

The South African champions will host the return leg on January 6, just four days after their mammoth league clash with potential title rivals Orlando Pirates on January 2.
