Kaizer Chiefs to have Video Assistant Referee present at FNB Stadium for Wydad Casablanca

Amakhosi will be hosting the Moroccan giants in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, after winning the first leg encounter with Samir Nurkovic's lone strike in Casablanca last weekend.

Basit, who is responsible for VAR's debut on South African soil, confirmed that everything should run smoothly for tomorrow evening's encounter with the SABC set to enjoy all the angles to spot off-sides, penalties, etc.

"You are going see it in action on Saturday. I think it's the first time we have actual VAR in South Africa. CAF have decided that for the semi-finals they will be using the VAR," Basit tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"They used it for the first leg, and remember it actually assisted with that one decision, so it's going to be here now for the second-leg at FNB Stadium as well.

"I do believe the match will be [broadcast] on SABC, so those watching will have an opportunity to see VAR in action – that's if it's going to be needed at all on Saturday.

"We saw the Kaizer Chiefs incident in the first leg with regards to that off-side. It assisted the referee in making a correct decision. So, VAR can only benefit football.

"There's actually four things that VAR checks – whether it's a 'penalty or no penalty', 'inside or outside the penalty area', and then they look at 'off-sides' and there's also 'mistaken identity'.

"Obviously we can't expect VAR to review every decision, so for now they focus on these four key areas. VAR will never tell the referee, 'We see a penalty'.

"VAR will only let the referee know, 'delay the re-start, we've picked something up in the penalty- area, we need you to do an on-field review – that's when the referee runs to the monitor that is available on the field, and they will describe to the referee what is it that they picked up, and remember the final decision is always with the referee."
