But a defensive masterclass led by goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma ensured Chiefs travelled back to South Africa this week with a valuable away goal in their pursuit to reach the final.
Samir Nurkovic scored with their only shot at goal while they held only 20% possession but with the win in marked history that can never be taken away from the Soweto giants - as the first South African team to win away in Morocco.
"We came here to do the business and we did exactly that," coach Arthur Zwane said after the game. "We are happy with the result, but we know it's not yet over.
"We've done what we came here for, we kept a clean sheet and we wanted a goal or two. The one is okay. They will open up a bit when they come to play us and we will try and punish them.
"We have another 90 minutes, it will be difficult. We were very disciplined and we hope to keep a clean sheet at home as well."
Amakhosi will face the Botola league leaders for the second leg tie on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium (18H00).
