Kaizer Chiefs home record breeds confidence ahead of Wydad Casablanca semi-final second leg

From six games played at FNB Stadium so far in the Champions League, Chiefs are yet to taste defeat.

Maintaining this run is all they need when they take on Wydad in the second leg of the semi-final tie on Saturday evening (18h00 kick-off) to proceed to meet either Al Ahly or Esperance in the final.

Chiefs won 1-0 away at the Mohammed V Stadium last Saturday and so have the option of either playing for a win or a draw, if they are move into the July 17 once-off decider at the same venue in Casablanca.

Amakhosi's impressive run started on December 5 last year, with an insipid goalless draw against PWD Bamenda of Cameroon in the preliminary round – a week after they had won 1-0 away in Limbe.

In the first round, they again played out a goalless draw against Angolan club C.D Primeiro de Agosto, and then won 1-0 again to progress to the competition's group stage for the first time in the club's history.

In the round-robin they started off with yet another scoreless stalemate against Horoya, which meant for three games in the competition they had not scored at home.

They eventually delivered the goals in a 2-0 win over Petro de Luanda, and then won 1-0 against Wydad to progress to the quarter-finals as group runners-up.

Into the last eight, Simba were destroyed 4-0 at the Calabash before the Soweto giants held out away from home to set up this date with Wydad.

This means in six home games Chiefs are also yet to concede, which is what will help them advance once again on Saturday.

There is no doubting that this is the biggest match that the Glamour Boys have played in their history to date.

From approximately R12,5 million, which is already guaranteed, there is the ultimate prize money of approximately R36 million to play for if they are to lift the title.

There is also the added plus of at least another R15 million being pocketed from merely qualifying for the FIFA Club World Cup.

If Chiefs reach the Champions League final but come out as runners-up, they will collect a cheque of approximately R18 million.
