Hunt has done what every other Amakhosi coach has failed to do in the past after guiding the club to Africa's elite club competition for the first time in its history.
Chiefs were drawn alongside Angola's Petro Atletico, Guinea's Horoya and Morocco's Wydad Athletic in Group C in Friday's draw in Cairo.
The recent achievement by the top coach makes one wonder what could have happened had he been allowed to strengthen the team as the Glamour Boys continue to serve a transfer ban handed down by FIFA.
"I think there were too many critics because of the losses Gavin got at Kaizer Chiefs," Mogotsi tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"I know ntate Motaung as a footballer, as an administrator, and then as a chairperson of Kaizer Chiefs. What I know is Gavin Hunt is a planner.
"It's not for the first time he takes part in the Champions League. He went with SuperSport [United], he went with us [Wits]. And we were also knocked out of the quarter-finals if you remember, whereby we had achieved a lot.
"As a man who plans his things, I like the mentality of ntate Motaung. And I like the mentality of the Kaizer Chiefs family because they feel that this is the coach, and this is a South African coach not any other coach from another foreign country.
"I know this thing that they cannot get any new players has hit ntate Motaung badly. But Gavin is a man of plans, he knows how to put things together and once he gets it right, he will beat you 1-0 until the sunset. He will make you chase 1-0 for the rest of the game.
"I've worked with him. It is not a surprise to see him go to a foreign country and achieve... we played Al Ahly when Gavin was at Wits and everybody wrote us off. Al Ahly went through by only a draw, which shows that this guy is capable.
"If Amakhosi had been on the market to get players, Gavin wouldn't be where he is on the log table. But due to this ban, FIFA killed him. But watch this space. I've got confidence in Hunty, I've worked with him for seven years.
"He is an old-school coach that wants simple things. He is not flashy, just do the job for him. Gavin Hunt, he's a snatcher. He snatches a victory. You can tell by the way he is moulding Kaizer Chiefs using experience and youngsters.
"I experienced this with us at Wits. We had no team when he got there. It was not easy when he took over from Clive Barker. But he made so many changes, hence I'm saying watch this space.
"Group stages are not easy, I went there, I know. But with God's mercy, Gavin Hunt will go through."
