CAF Champions League match report Simba v Kaizer Chiefs 22 May 2021

Kaizer Chiefs survived an onslaught from Simba SC to advance to the CAF Champions League semi-finals on Saturday afternoon.

Leonardo Castro, who came on early in the first half last Saturday,, was handed a start up top by the Amakhosi alongside Samir Nurkovic and Lebogang Manyama.

Simba targeted an early breakthrough from a shot around the area by Mzamiru Yassin, but he went over the top before goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma smothered the host from a corner-kick.

The Amakhosi didn't wait long to come alive as a few minutes before the midway stage Manyama followed by Nurkovic asked questions of the defence with smartly taken shots in on goal.

Simba grabbed the lead with 24 minutes gone when John Bocco latched onto Clatous Chama's pass before firing past Bvuma to give the host a lifeline in the overall tie.

The Tanzanian champions looked for a second after two minutes through a one-on-one from Bocco, but Bvuma pulled off a big save.

Chiefs were on the back-foot as the first half began to wind down, with Simba seeing a penalty appeal on a suspected handball by Eric Mathoho waved away by the referee.

The Amakhosi conceded again ten minutes into the second half after Bocco made full use of another bit of poor defending by the visitors to get a brace with a smart finish.

Two substitutions from Amakhosi coach Gavin Hunt four minutes later followed with Anthony Akumu Agay and Willard Katsande thrown into the thick of things.

This didn't aid their quest as Simba added a third four minutes from time through Clatous Chama off a ball from Luis Miquissone soon after they struck the post from a well-taken shot.

However, the Amakhosi managed to hold on in the end to claim a 4-3 aggregate win and advance to their first-ever semi-final appearance in the Champions League.

Confirmed line-ups:

Chiefs: Bvuma, Cardoso, Ngezana, Mathoho, Zulu, Frosler, Blom, Manyama, Parker, Castro, Nurkovic

Subs: Akpeyi, Mphahlele, Agay, Baccus, Kambole, Katsande, Ngcobo, Mashiane, Sasman
