Al Ahly legend Wael Gomaa says Pitso Mosimane must be backed in next transfer window

Al Ahly legend Wael Gomaa says Pitso Mosimane needs to be backed in the transfer market to get the players he wants.

Mosimane secured the 16th trophy of his glittering managerial career last week when Ahly downed RS Berkane 2-0 in the CAF Super Cup final.

While the latest triumph silence many of his detractors that have bemoaned the Red Devils style of play this season, Gomaa suggests that there are been several factors that have contributed to their indifferent performances.

Having arrived to succeed Rene Weiler before the end of the 2019/20 campaign, Mosimane has yet to sign the players fit for his preferred tactical system and has yet to have a full pre-season with the current squad.

"Al Ahly are achieving good numbers and exploits but the performance is not so satisfying in the recent period," the three-time AFCON winner told Nogoom FM.

"I think Mosimane is lucky to be at Al Ahly, there are some things he needs to improve soon. There is a consensus regarding his success and performance will improve in the upcoming period because there isn't a stacked schedule anymore.

"A manager has to have his own pre-season and choose his own players. I think Al Ahly need a striker, playmaker and a right back."

The Club of the Century returns to action against ENPPI on Friday evening for the Egypt Cup last-16 clash before the back-to-back CAF Champions League semi-final against Esperance.
