Warriors name weakened squad for Bafana return clash

Bafana Bafana will yet again face a weakened Zimbabwe minus former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates players when the two neighbouring countries face off again in a fortnight in the penultimate match of the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers to be played at FNB Stadium.

Last month The Warriors found themselves minus their England based stars amongst them Marvelous Nakamba, Tendayi Darikwa, Jordan Zemura and Brendon Galloway while former Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe also didn't make it due to covid-19 travel restrictions.

For the return leg – which Bafana Bafana need to win to strengthen their qualification bid – The Warriors will also be without several of their star players.

Skipper Knowledge Musona is out due to a hamstring injury which has already forced him to miss two games for his Saudi Arabia Pro League club Al-Tai.

Musona has been leading the attack for the past decade has broken into the senior team during his first stint with Chiefs where he totalled 44 goals following his second spell.

Another ex-Chiefs man out of the game is Hadebe.

An ankle injury has forced the lanky defender to use a moon boot at his Major League club Houston Dynamo where he had started every game prior to the injury.

Hadebe joined the American club in July from Turkish Super Lig club Yeni Malatyaspor.

Worse is that Marshal Muntesi of French League One club Stade Reims is also a doubt for the Bafana match following a hamstring injury picked up against Ghana in the last FIFA calendar week.

The ex-Pirates man had played all the games for Reims – including against Lionel Messi's Paris Saint Germain just before facing Bafana last month – prior to the injury.

According to The Herald newspaper, Darikwa's availability is in doubt while Alec Mudimu is suspended with Khama Billiat expected to captain the team.

Billiat will be playing at his club's home ground.

After playing Bafana in Johannesburg, The Warriors will finish off an awful campaign at home against Ethiopia – who are playing their home game against Ghana at Orlando Stadium.
