The Sundowns duo had received increasing calls from fans to return to the national team setup following impressive performances at club level in recent weeks.
"The question of Jali and Zwane, both played in the qualifiers last year but Bafana Bafana failed to qualify.
"Why didn't we qualify if they are that good," Broos told Metro FM's Ultimate Sports Show last week.
Mphela has since questioned Broos' reasoning for the continued non-selection of both players.
"What the coach said was so disrespectful, "Mphela tells KickOff.
"What he said was wrong. He could have just said the players don't fit in his plans.
"The problem is we allow foreign coaches to undermine our local players but I am sure if it was a local coach, it could have caused him lots of trouble.
"Broos also failed to help the country qualify for the World Cup, so should we also say he is a bad coach?
"I think he could have found a better way to address this issue. We are talking about players who have achieved a lot and deserve respect."
Mphela meanwhile was back in his home province of the North West on Sunday to conduct a soccer clinic in Klipgart alongside former teammates Josta Dladla and Punch Masenamela.
"This is a project that we started a few years ago but was halted by the Covid-19 pandemic since 2019.
"We are back again this year and are trying to open opportunities for many youngsters in the province," Mphela added.
"We are also trying to address the issue of social challenges including substance abuse. The country continues to lose many talented players due to substance abuse."
