Mashego: Competition augurs well for the national team

Former Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mashego does not see Hugo Broos playing both Lyle Foster and Zakhele at once against Namibia on Saturday.

Foster who plays for English Premier League club Burnley, and Lepasa from Orlando Pirates are currently the most in-form strikers in the Bafana Bafana team.

"I think the coach will have a bit of a headache, they are both in good form at club level," Mashego tells KickOff.

"Forster has scored two goals in the Premier League, and Lepasa is scoring goals for Pirates.

"The coach might go with both of them if it's possible. There is still a lot of training to be done before the match, I'm sure the coach will use that to select his best striker.

"He would look at what the game will demand before concluding.

"It would be unfair of us to say this one should be starting and this one should not.

"It is possible to field both of them at once, but if we look at the way the coach likes to play, he likes playing with one striker and a number 10.

"And I don't see any of the two players playing as a number 10, it's hardly done that you see at international level teams playing with two number nines.

"They are both number nines and they are both thriving in that position so only one of them should start.

"But this type of competition augurs well for the national team, that's what we want to see.

"We want players who are doing well for big clubs to play for the national team.

"If the big teams in South Africa are doing well we stand a good chance of qualifying for major tournaments.

"As long as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are doing well, the national team will continue to do well."
