Seven PSL stars suspended this week as DStv Premiership relegation scrap heats up

Stellenbosch star Junior Mendieta is among seven players ruled out of DStv Premiership action as the relegation scrap heats up.

The Argentine winger has been an impressive outlet for the Cape Winelands outfit who has surprisingly been sucked into a battle for survival as the season reaches the finale.

A run of 10 league games without a win heading towards their clash against Swallows this afternoon makes for poor reading - as they prepare to face the Dube Birds who've lost just one game all season.

However, a record 17 draws in their 26 fixtures thus far see them in fifth position but a top-three spot and qualification for next season's CAF Confederation Cup is still a possibility with the clash against Stellies being their game in hand.

Should Swallows win, they will move one point ahead of third-placed Golden Arrows but Orlando Pirates will also have the chance to usurp them when they face second-placed AmaZulu next week.

Who's in danger?

With Black Leopards on 19 points with three games to go - they are all but mathematically relegated.

Chippa United, Stellenbosch, TTM, Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic face the prospect of the Play-Offs.

Stellies in 14th are just one point off 15th placed Chippa, who are in action against Celtic at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium today.
