Portugal set unwanted record at EURO 2020

Portugal set an unwanted record at EURO 2020 after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Germany on Saturday evening.

Fernando Santos' charges were unable to build on their win over Hungary on Tuesday evening despite taking the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo in the first half.

While Ronaldo broke a few records on Tuesday evening, Selecao set an unwanted record on Saturday after becoming the first reigning champions to concede four goals in one match.

The loss saw Portugal drop to third spot in Group F, with Germany in second and world champions France holding top spot heading into the final round of group stage matches.

Despite ending up on the losing, the Portugal coach was still proud of how his player fought back.

"It's the smile of trust in a team that hasn't given up, that plays against Germany and fights until the end. I am proud of that.

"Would I have preferred to have won? Of course. But we must be proud of how we battled until the end."
