Pitso Mosimane defiant as Al Ahly's title hopes suffer controversial blow

Mosimane's side were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Tala'ea El Gaish despite having a seemingly legitimate goal ruled out and holding close to 70% of possession.

Zamalek now need just four points from their remaining three games to secure their first league title since the 2014/15 season and end Ahly's five-season title-winning streak.

"What can we say about this game? We are disappointed with the result but you can't be disappointed with the efforts of the players," Mosimane said post-match.

"They tried from the first minute to score but we couldn't get the ball in the net. We're not in good spirits because we wanted to win but in this game, there are not many tactics to talk of.

"We fought, we tried hard and I think the goalkeeper was very good, some of our crosses were easy for him to collect with his height. We should have gone to the sides more but that's part of the game, you must accept and move on."

On the calls from the officials, Mosimane refused to criticise the decision and said it's time for them to just accept and move on to their next challenge.

"As I said before I've never spoken against any referee and I will not speak about a referee. He's an experienced referee, a CAF referee and maybe he can't see where he is and relies on his linesman and three refs on top.

"If the linesman, the referee and three on top have made a decision, as Ahly what are we going to do? We continue playing.

"It's just very very painful when situations like this happen because it takes a lot of emotions and effort from everybody but we can't do anything."

The Red Devils management have since written to the Egyptian Football Association to seek 'foreign' officials for their games after the incident wasn't allowed to be assessed by the available Video Assitant Refereeing (VAR) technology.
