The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed that Flick will replace incumbent manager Joachim Low at the end of the Euro 2020 campaign, which is set to get underway next month.
The 56-year-old, who guided Bayern Munich to six major honours during his brief tenure at the Allianz Arena, has signed a three-year deal that will run until the end of the 2024 European Championship campaign.
His appointment follows Low's decision to step down from his national team post at the conclusion of this year's tournament after 15 years at the helm of Die Mannschaft.
Flick previously served as Low's assistant manager between 2006 and 2014 and was part of the Germany camp that famously emerged victorious at the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.
