Manqoba Mngqithi reveals motivation for Kutumela's Sundowns selection

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has explained the reasons behind his selection of attacker, Thabiso Kutumela ahead of Gaston Sirino in a 2-0 win in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.

Kutumela was handed his first start in the Brazilian's colours as Mngqithi's side stretched their lead in the standings.

The former Maritzburg United came in for the Uruguayan and duly rewarded the technical team's faith shown by providing an assist for the first goal in the 53rd minute.

"Kutu we played him last time as a substitute and scored a beautiful goal," said Mngqithi post-match.

"You will remember when we played Golden Arrows in the MTN8, he also gave a very good account of himself which kept him in the team.

"So Kermit Erasmus and Peter Shalulile have been doing well so we had to sacrifice Gaston who was not doing well. It's just that we felt we needed a little bit more directness behind either a Mako or a Hotto if they decided to play with Hotto as a wing-back.

"We wanted somebody who can give us that directness in a sense that actually gave us the first goal we scored today because that's exactly what we expected from Kutumela because we know he can give us that.

Sundowns reclaimed their top position on the log with 13 points after five matches played.
