Solinas is faced with a second opportunity to win the club’s supporters over when they commence their journey in the league cup competition this weekend.
Chiefs take on Black Leopards at the FNB Stadium on Sunday, with the Amakhosi faithful’s hopes high that they can go all the way to end their three-season trophy drought.
However, this won’t only be a wish of the supporters but also that of the Italian tactician, who previously reached the last-four stage of the competition with Free State Stars in 2016.
“This is my second Telkom Knockout participation. The first one, when I coached Free State Stars, we went to the semi-final and lost to [eventual winners] Cape Town City,” said Solinas.
“So, I hope to improve on this achievement; it’s possible. It’s difficult, because the opponent [Leopards] is very strong, but Kaizer Chiefs have to compete to win the trophy.”
Having previously reached the semi-finals of the MTN8, in which they surrendered their two away-goals advantage from the first leg against SuperSport United, Solinas insists they have learnt not only from that particular match but also each one since then.
“Yes, I have learnt from that game [against SuperSport] and we learn in every game. We take the lessons and we move forward,” he concluded.
