Romelu Lukaku netted a brace to help Belgium to a 3-0 victory over Russia in a Euro 2020 Group B clash in Saint Petersburg on Saturday.
Belgium opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Russia made a hash of clearing their lines from Dries Merten's cross and the ball fell kindly to Lukaku just outside the six-yard box with the Inter Milan striker finishing into the bottom left corner.
Russia won a corner in the 14th minute, which was delivered by Aleksandr Golovin to Mario Fernandes but his header was straight at Thibaut Courtois.
The Red Devils were piling on the pressure and in the 22nd minute, Yannick Carrasco's cross deflected off Dmitriy Barinov and into the path of Thorgan Hazard and he shot from a tight angle but Anton Shunin had come out to thwart the danger.
Roberto Martinez's side doubled their lead in the 34th minute. Hazard delivered a teasing cross into the box and Shunin parried it straight to Thomas Meunier, who brought the ball down before firing into the bottom corner.
The hosts started the second half the brighter of the two sides. Soon after the break, Igor Diveev played a long ball down the right for Roman Zobnin, who skipped past Hazard only to flash the shot over the bar.
Chances were few and far between in the second half. The Russians were looking threatening on the counter but the Belgians were tracking back well and working hard without the ball.
Lukaku sealed the deal five minutes from time. The number nine made a run down the inside right channel after being played through by Meunier and he placed the ball on his right foot expertly into the bottom right corner to get the Red Devils' Euro 2020 campaign off to a winning start.
