DStv Premiership match report Swallows FC v Stellenbosch 18 May 2021

Swallows raised eye-brows by starting goalkeeper Sanele Tshabalala, Junaid Sait and Fawaaz Basadien. Meanwhile, Stellies recalled Leletu Skelem and Phathutshedzo Nange.

A set-back struck the visiting outfit following 11 minutes when Nange succumbed to an ankle injury from a late challenge and was subsequently replaced by Ibraheem Jabaar.

Swallows caused the first threat two minutes later from the head of Kagiso Malinga, who was on target against Kaizer Chiefs last week, but he missed target on this particular occasion.

More openings followed on 26 minutes as Basadien helped in a rebound from Kamohelo Mahlatsi's shot, but he was called for offside.

Stellies responded a little before the half-hour mark with a free-kick from Jayden Adams before Sibusiso Mthethwa dragged a loose pass from a misplaced throw-in by Swallows wide.

Tshabalala was put to work seconds away from halftime as he produced a superb save to turn a volley from Ashley Du Preez away from the actual target.

Stellenbosch made a blistering start to the second half as Du Preez closed in from a long throw-in by goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt, but saw the chance go pear-shaped.

What followed ten minutes from the restart was a set of clear-cut chances to either side, however neither was able to make it count.

As the match headed to a close, it finished all square in Dobsonville after both outfits cancelled out each other particularly in the last third.
