'Cristiano Ronaldo & Kylian Mbappe gave me problems'

A former Juventus defender has named Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo as the players who created the biggest problems for him on the pitch.

Now-retired Italian centre-back Andrea Barzagli had one of the most decorated careers in Serie A history after joining the Bianconeri from Wolfsburg in 2011, finishing with seven Scudettos, four Coppa Italias and two UEFA Champions League runners-up medals with the Old Lady, as well as winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup with Italy.

In his 19-year playing career, Barzagli faced some of the world's best forwards, including Ronaldo, Mbappe, Miroslav Klose, Filippo Inzaghi and Lionel Messi, but chose the aforementioned duo as the two who caused him the biggest headaches.

"Ronaldo (Cristiano) is the player who has put me in difficulties the most. Over the years, at Real Madrid, he almost always scored against us," the former defender told Tuttosport.

"And then I remember how it was the feeling I felt in Monaco against the 18-year-old who was then Mbappe. He was going at 3 000 [miles] per hour all the time.

"At the end of the game I went to [former Juventus sporting director Fabio] Paratici and said: 'What are we waiting for to sign him?'

"The sports director made me understand that everyone already loved him and it was practically impossible to get close to Mbappe."

The ex-Italy star then continued praising Ronaldo, adding: "We are saying everything about him, for example, that he only plays for his records. But beyond 40 goals per season, he is always present in decisive matches.

"It does not mean that he has to win alone, behind him we have to build a team."
