Following a thrilling Euro 2020 encounter between Portugal and France that resulted in a 2-2 draw on Wednesday, the former Real Madrid teammates were seen having a lengthy chat as they walked off the pitch together.
With many wondering what might have been said, Benzema later revealed just what that conversation was about.
"It's good to see him again, we spent a long time together," the Les Bleus attacker told journalists, per the Metro. "We played at Real Madrid for eight, nine years, scoring goals, winning trophies...
"We chatted, we wished each other the best of luck for the future with our clubs and national teams and, above all, we wished each other to continue enjoying ourselves on the pitch and keep on making the difference."
The Los Blancos striker also admitted to feeling the pressure ahead of that game against Portugal as he had not scored for France heading into the last group match of the tournament.
"There was a lot of pressure around me and I know that's normal," he added.
"But I never gave up, and I moved around a lot and looked for chances. Today, it worked for me but the most important thing is that we are in the last 16.
"I have no doubts, but I feel that the whole country is watching me and it's normal after five years without being here [playing for France]. I want to enjoy it with everyone.
"Now I'm happy to have scored and to go through to the last 16. At Real Madrid, I was used to scoring, but I wanted to do it again with France."
Benzema and France will take on Switzerland in their round of 16 clash in Bucharest, Romania on Monday.
