In our exciting feature How I Became a Goalkeeper, KickOff speaks to former Bloemfontein Celtic, AmaZulu FC, Santos FC and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Thembalethu Moses.
I'm sure you have an interesting story to tell about how you became a goalkeeper.
"The interest started back in the days in my Kasi, Uitenhage, by watching grootmans who were playing as goalkeepers.
"We had some great goalkeepers like Mpukane, he would fly into a top corner and make a save.
"There was also another one called 'Difficult'; he was very difficult to score against.
"And funny enough, both in our Primary School and my amateur team I would play as a centre-back.
"So one day our keeper was costing us and conceding easy goals. He conceded two goals. I looked at our coach and said to him, coach, can I please stand in goals? So that was my first game as a goalkeeper. I never looked back.
"In that game, I didn't concede even a single goal. We ended up winning that game. I was 10 years old at the time."
"While still a youngster I would watch former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Botende Eshele, I would watch Innocent Mayoyo, I also fell in love with the Great William Shongwe and Gary Bailey."
"My favourite keeper currently is Sipho Chaine. Funny, when I was at Celtic, he was playing for our DDC team.
"He used to come and train with us in the first team. I used to share my knowledge with him. I'm so happy to see him where he is right now because things became tough for him after Celtic was bought by Royal AM."
