Former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has revealed why he could not succeed Pablo Franco Martin at AmaZulu FC, a club he has previously served with a degree of success as a tactician.
After parting ways with Martin early this season, with the Spaniard having lost his first three league matches, AmaZulu are believed to ave prioritized re-hiring McCarthy, whose contract at Manchester United was not renewed.

However, as previously reported by KickOff.com, he turned down their advances.
The KwaZulu-Natal side shifted their focus to Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp, who also was not interested.
And after Magesi head coach Clinton Larsen also rejected AmaZulu's offer, the club eventually settled for Vusumuzi Vilakazi and Arthur Zwane as co-coaches.
McCarthy has has revealed why he was not interested to get a second spell at the Durban outfit, after he was relieved of his duties at the same outfit in March 2022.
"Yes, they reached out to me, but for me, it was too much of water under the bridge. I think the manner we departed... I ironed out all the issues that I thought we needed to change to make this club to compete with the likes of[Mamelodi] Sundowns and [Orlando] Pirates. We were there and thereabouts," McCarthy said on Metro FM Sports.
"Unfortunately, he [AmaZulu President Sandile Zungu] didn't believe in that vision. He had a GM [General Manager] at the time that was his close mate, who also had his personal interest, what he wanted to do with the club, players he wanted to bring, a little side hustle.

"I was a man in the middle that was preventing him. If you make a noise [about me], the president would eventually have to pick a side and unfortunately, he [Zungu] bet the wrong horse," McCarthy revealed.
The ex-Orlando Pirates marksman has reportedly attracted interest in the Major League Soccer.
