Liverpool bounce back in FA Cup with big win

Liverpool booked their in the fourth round of the FA Cup after defeating Accrington Stanley 4-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Arne Slot made eight changes from the Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur, which included a debut for 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha and a start for Tyler Morton in midfield.

The Reds were in control from the kick-off but the visitors defended quite deep in their own half to restrict their opponents, while only looking to attack on the counter.

The hosts had to wait until the 29th minute to get the opening goal via a counter-attack of their own that ended with Diogo Jota turning home Darwin Nunez's cross for his seventh goal of the season.

While Accrington failed to trouble Reds goalkeeper  Caoimhin Kelleher, Slot's men went onto grab the second goal just before the interval courtesy of a wonderful strike from captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The visitors came out with a bit more attacking intent and they were nearly reward just before the hour mark when  Ben Woods, who is a Liverpool, rattled the crossbar with a powerful effort after the hosts failed to clear a corner.

Liverpool made their opponents rue the missed opening as they bagged a third goal with 15 minutes left on the clock as Federico Chiesa's shot was blocked, but substitute Jayden Danns was on hand to slam home from close range.

Chiesa would get his goal in the 90th minute as the Italian surged towards the box before unleashing a strike that sailed into the bottom corner to open his account for the Reds.
