Sundowns complete big signing

Ethiopian club Coffee SC has confirmed that Abubeker Nasir Ahmed's move to Mamelodi Sundowns is the biggest transfer that they have ever conducted in the history of the club.

Coffee SC sealed their transfer of Nasir to Sundowns on Monday night after the 21-year-old made a huge impression on trials straight after arriving at the club from the AFCON finals where he did duty for Ethiopia.

Speaking to snl24.com/kickoff, the boss of Coffee SC Fekade Mamo confirmed the transaction revealing that Nasir will return to Ethiopia on loan until the end of May.

He will then join Sundowns in the new season.

"We have agreed on a transfer fee with Sundowns as of yesterday and this is the biggest transfer that we have ever done in the history of the club of over 40 years," Mamo tells snl24.com/kickoff from Ethiopia during a wide-ranging interview.

"The player will come back to us, and he will continue with us for the next four months on a loan basis. After that, he moves back to his parent club Sundowns.

"I supposed they have preferred to loan him back to us because the transfer window closed on Monday night, and we didn't have time to follow the procedures of FIFA. So, we opted for an easier option.

"The determining factor was that we finished the negotiations late at night on January 31 so we thought the best solution would be to first sign the agreement and then let him stay with us for four months. That was the easier option. Abu will return today or tomorrow and play for us on Friday," explains Mamo.

This website has gathered that Nasir has signed a five-year deal with Sundowns which will have improved earnings every year if he plays a certain number of games.

Nasir was also targeted by Chiefs along with clubs in North Africa.

Last season, Nasir scored 29 goals in 22 games on his way to being crowned the league's top goals scorer, Best Young Player, and the Most Valuable Player.

He was also the CECAFA Under-23 Challenge Best Player.

According to Nasir's passport (seen by this website), he is due to turn 22 on February 23 with the travel document expiring in March 2024.

Nasir will become the fifth Ethiopian to play in the PSL after Fisehayimer Begashew, Fikru Teferra Lemessa, Getaneh Kebede and Mohamed Ibrahim.
