The Iron Duke has proposed wholesale changes to the tournament as part of cost-cutting measures. The Orlando Pirates boss said to avoid cash-strapped clubs from Africa from making long trips across the continent in the opening rounds of the club competitions, representatives from respective regions should play preliminary rounds against each other. He said the continent's geographical vastness was a problem for travelling teams, most of whom have no sponsor and rely on government grants to meet costs. Many Southern African sides have in the past pulled out of CAF competitions, citing inadequate finances. Khoza, who revealed that they had asked the Cosafa region to canvass the proposal in their behalf, says that making the preliminary rounds regional will help in shortening the travel distance and make it exciting for people to participate. Khoza blames Southern African teams' poor showing in CAF competitions on the travel costs, as he believes they are the hardest hit.
