Gugger consults Swiss medics over injury

The 27-year-old hard man has just returned from Switzerland where he went for an assessment on the injury that has kept him out of action since November last year.

Gugger previously played in Switzerland before returning to his homeland three years ago and joining Wits. He moved to the Dube Birds' Nest last season.

"I went for an assessment in Switzerland last week where I was given two options to fix the problem.

"It is either I do another operation, which I am not even considering, or, with the second option, strengthen the knee by way of injections and doing gym work. I definitely do not want to go for another operation.

"This is not a normal injury and so it will only be in January that I will know where I stand. I will have a clearer picture by then about what is really going on with the progress that I am making.

"When I do not play the knee feels fine, but when I push hard that's when the problem surfaces again.

"When I had the initial operation on the knee, I was informed that I would be out for 6-8 months. But after having twisted the knee again as I returned to full training, it will take another 3-5 months before I determine what is going on," Gugger tells Kick Off.
