Mamelodi Sundowns will play their first match post their confirmation as DStv Premiership champions for the seventh year in a row still buoyed by the drive of breaking new ground.

Sundowns will be at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale for a date with Golden Arrows on Wednesday (1930) in what will be the third away match that they have played since Thursday when they mauled Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.

On Sunday, they were in the Cape Winelands for a Nedbank Cup semi-final against Stellenbosch FC.

The Brazilians return for the league against their former employee Steve Komphela in what will be a match of interest.

Sundowns are now aiming to become the first ever ‘Invincibles’ in domestic football and for that to happen need to avoid defeat in the last six games against Arrows, Royal AM, Royal AM again, Stellenbosch, TS Galaxy and Cape Town City.

The feat that Sundowns are targeting, of finishing the season unbeaten, has never been achieved in domestic football and was famously done by Arsenal (2003/04) and Juventus (2011/12).

Sundowns are already sitting on the longest unbeaten league run to a new season at 24 games unbeaten.

They are undefeated in 48 league games, with their last loss having come against SuperSport United on September 2, 2022.

Rulani Mokwena has also not lost a league match in 44 games since taking over as the sole head coach in October 2022.

If they finish the season unbeaten, then they will also wipe out the least number of defeats record of one loss, which they recorded on their way to the 2020/21 title.

There is also the most wins column record which stands at 22 (for a 16-team PSL league) and was achieved by The Brazilians on their way to the 2015/16 triumph when they reached 71 points.

Sundowns have won 19 to date and need another four to set a new top mark.

Their 71 points tally remains the highest for a 16-team PSL league and they will surpass that with another 10 points from the six games left to play.

The most goals feat (56 – 2021/22) is still there for the taking with the champions already on 47.

The least goals conceded column is also still there for the taking with Kaizer Chiefs still sitting on the best at 11 (2003/04).
