With Argentine star Lucas Suarez now reportedly set to join Mamelodi Sundowns on loan, here's a look at four stars from Argentina who have represented South African clubs in the PSL era.
According to the Argentine outlet Olé, Suárez is edging closer to leaving CA Talleres in favour of a loan move to Sundowns.
The publication claims that the centre-back will sign a one-year loan deal with the South African side, including an option to buy, and the 29-year-old is said to be hoping to play at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in June.

His arrival in South Africa would make him only the fifth Argentine player to ply their trade in the country, as per Transfermarkt.
In July 2009, the South African top flight welcomed its first player of Argentine descent after AmaZulu signed goalkeeper Nick Gindre on a free transfer from AFC Wimbledon.
The Buenos Aires native lasted just one season with Usuthu before going on to spend just over a year with Mpumalanga Black Aces, taking his total number of league appearances in the PSL to nine.
In July 2018, AmaZulu once again signed another Argentine, this time striker Emiliano Tade.
The centre-forward immediately impressed at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, registering seven goals and two assists in 20 games. This prompted a move to Sundowns just six months later, in January 2019.
However, things didn't go so well at Chloorkop, as Tade lasted just 12 games at Masandawana, where he scored just two goals.
In July 2020, it was Stellenbosch FC who decided to bring in Argentine star Junior Mendieta on loan from Lanús II.
Stellies proceeded to make the loan permanent exactly a year later, keeping Mendieta for a further two seasons before he signed for Sundowns in July 2023.
But similar to the case of Tade, Mendieta found it difficult to establish himself in Pretoria, as he also lasted just one season before moving to Greece at the beginning of this season.
The last Argentine to make the switch to South Africa was Matías Esquivel in January 2024, with the midfielder completing a €2.3 million (R44.3 million) move, which made him one of the most expensive signings in the history of the PSL.
But like most of his compatriots, Esquivel made little to no impact at Downs, with the club sending him out on loan just six months later to CA Talleres.
It has been reported recently that Talleres no longer see a future with Esquivel and are set to cut his season-long loan short this month.
